• My Style & Inspiration | 90s, Bloggers, & Flower Power

Hi my peeps!  I’ve been looking for a way to share with you some of the inspirations and things I’ve been loving lately.  If you follow me on Pinterest you may have already seen some of these images, but that’s OK, they’re lovely enough to see again.  This is slightly similar to my recent post with Langley Fox as my “fashionspiration,” but sort of different.  Hopefully you’re a fan of the 90s grunge, MEGA-BABE bloggers, snazzy street style pics, and editorials…  (Inspiration images via Pinterest)

    ~90s, MEGA-BABE Bloggers, and Flower Power~

Final Collage 2 Final Collage 3 Final Collage 1

I have a lot of different inspirations at the moment, so they don’t all fit into one theme, but they’re a mix between 90s, bloggers, editorials, and street style.  I really want to have include some sort of retro aesthetic in my outfit, whether that means a suede 90s skirt, thick platform sandals, or bell bottom jeans.  I think that some of these pictures really sum that up.  Overalls are also a goal of mine, mainly because of Justina Sharp, and Tumblr.  There’s also been a few bloggers I turn to for inspiration nowadays, the MEGA-BABES of the blogging world, such as Tolly Dolly Posh, and Clover + Dot, as well as Tavi Gevinson, and Fashion Your Seatbelt.   I’ve been loving scuba fabric, and high waisted, light wash jeans, especially the effortlessly cool, grunge or retro vibes.  Pastels don’t seem to match the rest of this, but flower crowns do, so of course I had to include a few of both.  Pastels and bright colors may seem to contradict each other, but those have also been really big inspirations for me as well.

What I Wore:  Mineral Wash Overall Shorts (Forever 21)//Short-Sleeved Knit Sweater (ASOS )//Black Patent Leather  1460s (Dr. Martens)//Simple, Stacked, Rope Bracelets (Assortment)

Surprise, surprise, I wore my Dr. Martens.  Despite what you may have been thinking due to my Dr. Martens and flower crown lookbook, A, I do own other pairs of shoes, and B, I do wear them.  But I couldn’t help myself, these clunky boots just scream grunge, and 90s fashion.  Plus, Dr. Martens, are pretty much iconic, meaning they’re all over Tumblr, meaning that I was automatically effortlessly cool.  I paired those beauties with another one of my personal favorites, overalls.  I was considering whether I wanted to get a pair of shorts, or full length pants, but I’m glad I decided on the shorts, they just seem to match the OOTD really, very well.  Despite the fact that overalls are pretty popular every summer, that’s not really one of the reasons I bought them.   In fact, it was because of this crop top.  I have made an executive decision, and decided that sleeveless, turtleneck crop tops are the coolest things out there, and they really compliment these overalls.  I would have preferred black to match my shoes, but you have to take what you can get in sales.

Due to the fact that my local delivery has decided to be exceedingly slow, I couldn’t wear this turtleneck, but I could wear this just as pretty, yet slightly less 90s inspired shirt.

Had I owned a choker necklace I probably would’ve worn that, but instead I just wore this simple little mouth necklace, mainly because it just seemed grunge inspired.  Instead  stacked a bunch of simple, small, and sometimes rope bracelets, (which I do almost everyday in the summer) just to add a little flair.  Oh and the flower crown…  You’ve been seeing a lot of flowers, crowns, and DIYs on this blog lately, mainly related to my next big project, but no one knows what it is.  Anyways, I paired one of my absolute favorite and probably most retro flower crown with this whole ensemble.  Daisies, they have good vibes you know?

Well that’s that!  What are some of your current “fashionspirations?”  What aesthetics have you been loving?  How do you translate your inspiration into an OOTD?  Let me know in the comments.

  • What Does the “Posh” Trend Mean Now?

Posh.  Elegant.  Luxurious.  Upscale.  Traditionally posh is high class, lavish style; perfectly polished.  But with the rise of young models and fashion icons like Cara Delevigne and Suki Waterhouse comes a new type of posh.

    Posh

A few months ago, being “hipster” was everything, it was the new posh.  Following the mainstream trends was bad, and rebelling against it was good.  But soon afterwards, everyone wanted to be “hipster,” and this sense of style quickly became a mainstream trend.  It received lots of backlash in the media, and slowly slunk away.

Without any leading trends in the fashion world, there was room for almost everything.  Specifically, the low-maintenance, simplistic, indigenous styles of fashion’s newest top models.  Even Chanel and Burberry loved this style, as soon after it became popular this style was seen of the runways Spring/Summer ’15 shows.

    Cara

In the past models were supposed to be especially well put together, rich, elegant.  But now I cannot say the same.  Delevigne is known as an urban Brit, friends with the best of celebrities.  Waterhouse has similar friends, as she enjoys the companionship of film producers and studio executives alike.  Others like Hannah Weiland are creating their own brand, perhaps named after a small crustacean.  Despite this, the young models who started these trends seem surprisingly relate-able, with their natural and intuitive sense of humor.

I do have to say that this style is quite fun, and appealing, especially for me.  Despite the fact that the trend is supposed to seem so _______, I cannot help but feeling it is perfectly refined.  This new-found style is easy, and pretty, and classy in its own way.  While I’m not sure I’m ready to sport, kilts and parkas, I can say that there are elements for everyone, from tomboy trousers to mini dresses.

How to Embrace the “Posh” Style

  • Favorite Films of the Moment

Just recently I saw a video by Shane Koyczan and I thought it was amazing; the animations were beautiful, and the poem was quite inspiring.  I really wanted to share it with you, but I thought a whole post about one video was a bit ‘odd.’  Then came the idea of sharing my favorite videos, specifically the ones I find most inspiring.  These videos are 5-8 minutes long, so they’re perfect to watch while nibbling a muffin, or drinking a spot of tea.

Shane Koyczan – To This Day

The start of this whole post, “To This Day,” is a spoken word poem featuring a few stories about bullying.  There are 3 stories, one about the author himself, the next about a young girl with a slightly larger than normal birthmark, and the last about a depressed boy.  It’s a very creative and meaningful little film, perfect for when you’re having a less than perfect day.  It also makes me want to write something as great as this, so if you’re suffering from writer’s/blogger’s block than this is perfect for you.

I’ll be the first to admit it, a Zoella video may seem a little overrated, and cliche, but this is actually one of my favorites.  A favorites video that doesn’t feature one person sitting in a chair, and talking for the whole video.  Instead, the camera shows off the actual products and essentials, rather than the person who enjoys them.  The lighting is perfect for fall, dark and dreamy, just like all the other videos I’ve chosen to share with you.

Style Like U – Tavi Gevinson Closet Tour

A slow and beautiful look around the room of Tavi Gevinson, featuring sneak peeks at journal pages, her headpieces, and of course, her wardrobe.  I find that I’ve always been highly inspired by Tavi Gevinson, her blog, her magazine, her wardrobe in later years.  The whole video seems very dreamy, and magical, it makes me want to put on rings very slowly, and wear long flowing dresses and flower crowns.  She was also the main reason I got into cat-eye-liner and Miu Miu collars, (and you know, feminism)  so I am forever in debt.

My Life as Eva – Fall Essentials

A bright and fun look at fall essentials courtesy of Eva Gutowski featuring hair, music, and clothes.  It’s a little late in the season for some of these things, but others are timeless. Once again I think the filming is very dreamy and pretty.  The fashion week montages leave you wishing, and the easy hairstyles leaves you wanting a reason to go out and flaunt your new-found ‘bubble ponytail.

Well that’s that!  So let me know what you think in the comments below.  If you have any other films you really enjoy, or want me to watch, then let me know that in the comments too.  If you haven’t already then be sure to read the other post I wrote today, about the new blog schedule and post types I’ll be posting.

  • Is that a Monster on Your Back?

Quite recently I have been really inspired by quirky teen bloggers, as always, so I’ve come across quite a few odd things.  A few of my favorites have been furry sweaters, pinafore dresses, colorful comics, just about anything from the 1950s including the Outsiders, and “classic shoes” like Mary Jane’s, and Dr. Martens.  But you know I can’t resist the DIY, improvised thing-a-ma-bob; crowns, Miu Miu collars, and pencil bags as clutches.

    vibes

I really want to be Sully from Monsters Inc. so I can be best chums with Mike Wazowksi, but I don’t think I’m all that funny ( they started using laughs instead of screams), or furry, so the best I can do is wear furry clothes all day long, and live in perpetual omission of Boo.  And while I’m shedding tears about that, I can weep about how these beauties on ASOS aren’t in stock in my size, and how Miu Miu collars cost $100s of dollars.  But all is well, because only commendable things come out of my inferior moods, like flower crowns, DIYs, pins, the discovery of new teen bloggers, and of course, a wish list of abut 100 things on ASOS.  And just in case I didn’t use enough resplendent jargon, I have encompassed some dandy conversation in this last sentence, courtesy of the thesaurus.

  • The Fight for Feminism

I have lots of stuff floating in my head about feminism, but nothing sounds good on the nifty, new-fangled paper AKA laptop screens, so I’m taking this article from a school assignment.

We had to pretend to be winning Time Magazine’s Person of the Year (POY) award, after being inspired by a humanitarian ( to do pretty much the same thing, but you know, that’s what they told us to do).  Somehow I managed to convince my ELA teacher Tavi Gevinson was a really great choice, but she is right?  Feminism and all that…

The Fight for Feminism: [Clever Title I have Yet to Figure Out]

According to The Independent, in the United Kingdom, women earn 15% less money than men, doing the exact same jobs.  1.2 million children are sold as slaves each year.  80% of these children are girls.   In 10 countries around the world, women are forced to obey their husband, and anything they say.  The shocking truth is, in society, women are less respected, less important, and forced to be less independent than men.  But it’s not totally a lost cause.  Feminists like Nyah Marie have taken the world by storm in their dedication to get equal rights for both genders.  It is for this reason that Nyah Marie has been selected as Person of the Year.

Nyah, like many other feminists has managed to travel around the world giving empowering and inspiring talks.  She has created an online magazine for young girls all over the world to learn about feminism, to help them “discover their true identity,” and to empower them, so that they can become strong leaders later in life.  She had written articles upon articles about important issues for girls at an early age.  According to Nyah, “If teens are exposed to issues before their peers they can form valid, informed ideas and opinions that are not tainted by the views of others.”

Such wisdom is unexpected for someone who hasn’t been on earth longer than twenty years.  Nyah Marie, currently known a job as an editor, a spokesperson, and a role model for girls everywhere is only seventeen.

It’s not too surprising that she already knows so much for her age.  Nyah grew up in a city full of many different opinions, and cultures.  This colorful, and creative city is known as none other than New York City.  She lived in an apartment with her eminent artistic mother,  and her dad, an art museum curator.  While attending an exclusive private school in New York City, her mother sent her an email with a link to photographs of handmade paper magazines all about women’s rights.  After carefully reading everything, and then rereading to make sure she got the point, Nyah sheepishly admits she was a bit confused about what feminism really was, and what it was trying to accomplish.  So she spoke to the other girls in her class, asked them what they thought about feminism, and other major issues like depression.  To Nyah’s surprise, they either didn’t care, or they didn’t want to.  “They were all happy cheerleaders, they didn’t want to be different, they didn’t want to be creative, and they didn’t want to weighed down with sad thoughts, and rebellious causes.  I was going crazy not being able to say something, not being able to make any difference in the world.  So I asked my mom to help me put together a blog where essentially I went on and on about world hunger, oppressive leaders, but most importantly, feminism,” Nyah states.  Eventually that blog became a little more well known than  she had originally planned.  She was featured on talk shows, interviewed, was even asked to be the face of a company, which she immediately turned down, for unknown reasons.

One might think that all this power has gone to her head.  But Nyah remains humble, both as a person, and as an emerging world leader.  She prefers we not refer to her as an idol, or a legacy.  In fact, she thinks of herself as a normal person who got lucky doing what she loved, and talking about what she believed in.  While she knows that girls look up to her, she uses that to support her cause even further.  She tells girls that they can make a difference, that it is possible for them to influence society.  That slowly, their world is changing.

Though not as much as she would like it to.   Nyah truly doesn’t understand why anyone would be against feminism.  After reading many comments, and articles, she was able to draw the conclusion, that people think it’s an angry cause.  That feminism is only for women.  That feminism is trying to raise the power women have, and lower men’s.  But truly, feminism is only asking for equal rights, equal respect, and equal power for both genders.

That is one of the reasons Nyah eventually grew her small blog into the magazine it now is.  She believed being a teenager, and being a feminist were closely related.  To Nyah, feminism had no rules.  Sure there are some basic principles, but everyone is really trying to figure it out.  And that’s exactly how a teenager lives their life, trying to figure everything out.  So the association was almost natural, as was blogging to her 1,000s of followers that she wanted to start a magazine, and asking them to submit their work to be on the staff.  She got an enormous amount of replies, to which she was able to narrow down to a select few.  All of those girls had a different opinion on what feminism was, and to Nyah, getting in a fiery hot debate was quite fun.

To Nyah, feminism means fighting.  Fighting for equal rights, for ideas to stop oppressing girls.  Specifically in pop culture, these films, songs, bands, and idols, quite often display “strong” women as characters with no flaws, that.  But in fact, these don’t exist, so it is quite impossible for anyone to be this way, yet we still somewhat expect women to be that simple and easy to understand.  But what is even worse is when pop culture portrays girls, especially teens, as one thing or the other.  You can’t be smart, and pretty, you can’t even care about how you look without caring about what boys think.

That is everything the magazine rebels against.  Quite a lot actually.  The whole theme of the website is to empower, inspire, and expose teens to good role models, that have flaws, that are controversial to society’s ideas of strong female characters.  A particular person of interest is the young adult, Tavi Gevinson, who Nyah was strongly inspired by.  Tavi, very similarly to Nyah, had a blog, but mostly about lighter topics like what clothes she was interested in, and what designers she liked.  Eventually she grew this blog into a large website about some of the same things, style, technology, music, basically a collection of all the different aesthetics Tavi was interested in.  “I heard about her blog shortly after I began mine, although she had given that up after she lost interest in fashion.  It was Tavi who first exposed me to feminism.  Tavi who first led to me take a stand.  It was all Tavi, and that’s who we should be giving credit to,” she says.

Who is this girl? Person of the Year, a feminist, a leader, a  natural born legacy, despite how much she despises when we call her that.  She is a seventeen year old girl who loves Lisa Frank glitter stickers, brooches, and aesthetically cataloging little corners of her room.  She is the girl in the corner of the room building an empire, and making shrines for her favorite people and places.  She is a normal teenager, who just so happens not to have a normal amount of wisdom for her age.  She is someone everyone wishes they were as cool as in high school.

  • Playlist|Sink into the Sun

I’m not one of those people who walks around with earbuds in all day, or brings a Bluetooth speaker on the bus, but I do like music.  Some of the time.  Some of the time I think people have gone crazy.  For example, have you seen Nicki Minaj lately?  Stick with starships please.

My friend told my other friend about my blog.  So that happened.  She likes fashion too, so I guess it’s all good.  But maybe this is getting too diary-like.  I mean, boys, and other crazy stuff like that has become a daily thing.  Too bad, people, deal with my problems. Because I can’t consistently keep a journal.  The one I have now, with 17 pages completed is my record.

Oh, that title’s all me.  Yeah, I know I’m good.

  • New Rings-The Transitive Nightfall of Diamonds

I am quite a fan of jewelry.

    Obviously.

I mean, how else can I add something to an outfit?!?!  I think I have more jewelry than I have winter clothes.  Just saying.

So of course, if anyone wants to buy me a present, they buy me jewelry.  I think I currently need a new favorite piece of jewelry because I have been wearing the same TopShop necklace every time I post an OOTD, and the same cardigan.

    I need more flowing, long sweaters, what can I say? DSCF0867 DSCF0868 DSCF0870 DSCF0873

My mom bought me this set of two rings from Jewel Mint, turns out they’re supposed to have the same sized band, but the pearl ones a teensy bit too big, and the dagger-thing is a little bit too small.  I think I have fat fingers, but it’s more likely that models have unrealistically sized hands.  Just saying…

Let’s see.  In terms of life, nothing new.  I mean my dogs scared the UPS guy into leaving the package on the sidewalk, my best friend’s math group associated normal things, with quite disgusting things (if you know what I mean), yeah, that’s about it.  The majority of my days consists of me either not talking to anyone, talking about school work, or talking constantly with my friends.  Oh, and tutoring…  Yay for smart people!

Did you know the average person in my state consumes enough energy to send Marty back in time 138 times?

Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?

Yeah, I’m one of those nerdy people….  FLUX CAPACITOR!!!

  • This STUPID thing called GROWING

You know what I wanna do?

Sitting here in bed late at night online “shopping” (which I put in quotes because I never actually buy anything, being twelve that’s kind of hard) on sites like ASOS and Lazy Oaf, makes me miserable.  I can like all the clothes in the world through my computer, but do I ever actually get to go out and buy anything?  No.

Sometimes I just want to redo my whole wardrobe, which is totally fair, since up until I cared about what I wore, my mom did my shopping.  But now I have a big rack of unworn shirts I don’t like, and dresses I’ll never wear, and the occasionally semi-wacky piece of clothing (since dressing as fun and creative as I want without caring what the heck other people think is one of my life goals) I pick out on my own.

Of course that is unreasonable, because you know this stupid thing called growing is still happening, at a size 8 1/2 in shoes right now, and the verge of children’s/women’s  is still where I shop.  And I’m like 5’1 or 5’2 or whatever, so yeah, with my mom being 5’7 and my dad 6’0, I’ve still got a while to go.

Anyways, that needed to be said.

But you know if someone important in the world (say Barack Obama) asked me what my one wish would be I would say world peace, partly to look good, and partly so I can stop worrying about my friend’s country being destroyed by Russia, and oh, I almost forgot, GENOCIDE!!!!  Props to school for teaching me all these horrific things, but not well enough, because I have to go home and talk more because I don’t understand.

Oh don’t judge me, you know you’d do the same.

  • But Daaaaad…

Hi daisies and daffodils!!!!! I’m a little too perky today.  I’m just recovering from my caveman talk.  It has been a long time since we last spoke of fashion, so to please my needs here is a little shopping wishlist.  I don’t know if I’ll actually buy anything but, you know… This is a FASHION BLOG TOO NYAH, NOT JUST YOUR LITTLE JOURNAL OF THOUGHTS AND MUSINGS.

Now I present to you the things I am currently drooling over on ASOS in hope that my parents will read this (unlikely) consider buying me what I’m asking for (very unlikely) and actually buying it (impossible).  But hey, mom, dad, *wink wink wink wink wink* prove me wrong.

Click to purchase (maybe even a little somethin’ somethin’ for me) you know if you do I’d gladly open up a P.O. box.

     New York Sweater//Velvet Chiffon Bowtie

New York Sweater:  While this piece isn’t wild or wacky, I still think it would have a lovely home in my closet.  I could always have another casual piece, and something to wear when that leather skirt fits around my waist.  Overall, I don’t think I’ll buy it, because I have so many sweaters already, but is someone else were to than, that’s an offer I can’t refuse.

Velvet Chiffon Bow Tie: This is the weirdest looking bow tie I have ever seen.  So of course I want it.  I mean someone has already asked me why I was wearing a tie, why not get them to ask me why I’m wear a bow tie with high socks, and Oxfords?  I mean, you know I love to laugh at people’s reactions to my clothes as soon as they leave with my friends.

    image1xxl (9) image1xxl (10)

    Longline Cardigan//Red Duffle Coat

Longline Cardigan: I know at first this isn’t extraordinary but that’s kind of the point.  I wanted a simple long cardigan to put over dresses and leggings that matches with a lot of my stuff.  Plus they already have an elbow patch, so why not add on some of my old Girl Scout ones too?  It’s a so-so piece, but I was really interested in the patch.

Red Duffle Coat: All I want to do is put on some black rain boots, and go splashing in puddles, feeling like a combination of Captain Hook, and the perfect London girl.  Weird associations, I know, but pretty accurate too.  The deep red is a beautiful color, and the closures have me feeling like I should be on a ship.  But it’s also really elegant because of the peplum-like bottom, and faux fur.  I would buy this if I could afford it.  Oh please “Santa” won’t you take mercy on a fashion obsessed girl and visit early this year?

    image1xxl (11) image1xlC3NLHWN7

    Checkered Pinafore Dress//Fast Food Pins

Checkered Pinafore Dress: When I get dressed in the morning (on those days where you could sing out the window like Snow White) usually I have a character in mind.  I slip on rings, necklaces, shoes, and I get to be someone else.  I don’t have to be the shy smart girl no one can remember the name of.  I don’t have to be a member of the “Nerd Herd” or the only girl not wearing Pink (AKA middle school’s version of Justice).  I can be the confident character I have in mind.  Well, I feel like this dress would be really fun to imagine a character in, I’m not sure what yet, definitely retro, maybe a maid.  Probably with some high socks, silver Oxfords.  Yah, that’s it.

Fast Food Pins:  After that very emotional, and slightly personal speech type thing, I think I should end with something light-hearted I’ve been thinking of for a while.  Yes, you guessed it.  FOOD!  Just kidding, I got some pins from my grandmother, (and wore them without lapels, as well as shoe clips not on my shoes, props to me) and now I can’t wait for it to be Fall.  The only thing tiding me over is hoping someone will send me some pins, some things on this wish list, and a tripod, and then I’ll be all good.

Comment if you want to see more of these, because they’re really fun, and give me an excuse to be online shopping.

  • Vibes: Moody, Perfect Clutter & Daisies

Fashion… clothes… blah blah blah….  I have actually succeeded in creating outfits worth sharing.

I have not succeeded in creating the time and effort it takes to take good pictures.  SOOOOO sorry, but no outfit pictures until I get a tripod.  Excuses excuses, reasons, blah blah.

This is a really lazy random, post, but I felt like contributing something to the world today, (and I can’t finish a paper journal, I’m working on it) so here we are.

Well here I am, since you will likely be closing this in 3….2….1….. oh no!  You’re still here, that means…  Well, I have to do an actual post.  Here are some vibes.  Enjoy be inspired, all that blogger stuff.

P.S.  I am quite frustrated with my theme.  It pretty, 1 picture a column, caveman talk, zzzzz….  huh what?  click  and read description… big picture…  zzz………  (yes, I know these go at the end.  jeez leave me alone, I know what I’m doing, just for that, no caps for you).

Very Tavi Gevinson, teenager with personality thing, not the fake, annoying talkative “girls”  (if you can call them that, they’re more like robots, or zombies) who think they should drink coffee in middle school and Do Not Enter Diaries.  I am currently in the process of achieving this moodiness.

Kind of perfect in that messy way.  I can’t figure out how to clutter without making a mess.
