Orchid is the Declared the Color of the Season

Tres Chere Readers,

I am so happy orchid has been declared the color of the season. It’s my absolute favorite color. And I can’t believe I get to do a whole post about purple, and fashion Total win-win.

Royalty

When I think of purple I think of luxurious queens and princesses and king’s robes. I think of royalty basically. Or dazzling gems on a crown. So why not call this the color of the season. Everyone wants to be treated like royalty. In the past, deep purples were only worn by a few upper class people. But this winter, purple ill be available to everyone. As is always should have been. Last year, emerald was decided the color f the year. I also think of royalty when I hear this. But not as much as purple. Emerald seems more like ocean princes, Ariel kind of royalty, not Italian princess.

What it Symbolizes

Emerald stood for growth, renewal, and prosperity. Which is pretty much just the same words, with a little tweak or two . This year, orchid stand for creativity, originality, and innovation. My type of color. I love to be creative. I write, I draw, I paint, I blog, I sew, I journal, I love any sort of thing where you can be creative really. Art is my passion. And fashion falls under that broad topic.

Beauty

Radiant Orchid has pink undertones that give you a healthy glow. This caught the attention of many viewers or Spring 2014 views. Thanks to this, many celebrities our showing off the purple beauty products.

On the Runway

Many designers have ventured upon their usual colors for the dazzling orchid this year. Jackie Fraser-Swan, Juicy Couture, and Yoana Baraschi are all some of these daring people. The have incorporated many shades of purple, primarily orchid into their spring collections. Other will continue this trend by designing various handbags and accessories in this hue.

Winter is Coming to an End… At Least for Designers

While we’re still stuck on our Christmas carols, and ornaments, and baubles designer is London showcased their spring designs. Guess what color it was in? If you guessed orchid, give yourself a pat on the back. I have taught you well. Spring has already entered the minds of many designers. They are thinking Easter flowers, and usually the eggs are oink. But maybe this year we’ll see some more purple eggs.

Influences

Orchid is no new color. Even royalty in Victorian times liked this deep romantic color. And Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge liked this color too. She wore it for her family picture with Prince William this August. Carrie Underwood even wore it to the Emmy’s in September. And Jennifer Garner wore it on the red carpet gorgeously at the much anticipated( by many others) Oscars.

Burberry Prorsum Pre-Fall 2014

Dear Readers,

The time has come for the Pre-Fall 2014 fashion shows to premiere. I am taking advantage of it being the weekend to cover some of my favorite shows from the comfort of my home. One of my favorite blogs always covers Burberry, and they always look good. So I’ve decided to do a post for her, since she doesn’t have one up. Okay, lets get started.

BurberryProrsum_001_1366.683x1024
I really like this collection this Fall. There’s a lot of variation in what the designer did here. There’s some casual overlapping, like here, and some cooler, more interesting pieces too.  The chunky sweater has a doodle like design, and it looks really warm.  I need one of those.  It’s been 18 degrees Fahrenheit outside and we had a fire drill.  So no coats, and for some people they were wearing gym clothes.  SO yes, this would be a good investment.  And I like the t-shirt underneath.  I think it’s the Seattle Space Needle, or something like that.  But it’s a really fun shirt to have.  I like how artsy the shirt looks, and how it matches the sweater.

BurberryProrsum_003_1366.683x1024

This is really classy, yet it’s anew take on the professional look.  Everyone wears blazers with button down shirts, and heels. And everyone wears pencil skirts with that.  But no one wears a furry skirt.  The designer managed to make it look very chic, and fun, instead of crazy and child like.  And who wouldn’t want to wear that purse.  It’s so classic, and Italian, but it totally  matches.

BurberryProrsum_005_1366.683x1024

While the baggy forms of the dress doesn’t compliment the model’s form, the print is original.  In fact, it’s more than original.  It’s whimsical.  It looks like a coat, but paired with the right things it could also be a dress,  And the peep toe wedges are really punk.  I like the lace up front , and the zipper.

I love this!  The printed jeans and skirt are electrifying, even with the hunter green color.  The whole thing is kind of straightforward,  Yet, it looks so lavishing.  The big spots of fur, add contrast to the non textured  jacket.  I love how high the jeans and skirt are pulled up too.  They remind me of high waisted shorts, except they’re pants, and well of course skirts. And adding the extra baggy part of the tucked in shirt, complements the super skinny jeans, and cinched waist.

BurberryProrsum_028_1366.683x1024

BurberryProrsum_022_1366.683x1024

For some reason this seems so modern Italian princess.  I love the cut at the leg.  It seems so evil queen.  The deep blue with flowers for some reason reminds me of Italy.  I don’t know why, maybe because it seems so perfect.  Like the architecture.  While the dress was already perfect, it seemed a little out of place from the funky line. So I totally understand why they added the jacket.  it is a really different style than the dress but they go together perfectly.  It also seems so Italian, probably because of the leather.

This dress can be kind of dizzying.  But the way the fabric is folded or designed or sewed makes it seems like the whole thing is made of studs.  It’s a phenomenal effect.  Something that must have taken a lot of time to design and “invent” this dress.  And the bronze color is so different from the usual silver studs you see on punk clothing.  But the one with purple and red fabric is really hard to distinguish.  I still can’t tell if it’s one piece of fabric, or a holed jersey fabric over the top.  Plus the red is super metallic, which is a trend this Fall.

Style Solve-it: Band Uniforms, Oh the Horror!

A fashion look from December 2013 featuring Forever 21 sweatshirts, Mango sweaters and River Island capri. Browse and shop related looks.

Tres Chere Reader,
Today, I had a band concert. Yes, I play the flute. We played Troika, a Russian folk dance a sled, and Nutcracker Satie Petite. That is a sample of many songs in the Nutcracker ballet.  But the worst part is what we had to wear.  Well, besides messing up.  Out school requires us to wear men’s sized blue polo shirts.  In the upper left corner, there is the school name with our mascot, the shark, and the word music.  There’s three buttons too, to add to all the ugliness.  But that’s not it.  We also have to wear black dress pants, to make ourselves look even  stupider.  And lastly, black dress shoes, and black dress socks.  Oh, and one more thing about the shirt:  Since it’s so long, when you tuck it into your dress pants, it makes your pants look very big, and fat.  So, naturally I wanted to fix this little “problem.”  So I have come up with a way to make this outfit, make that horror a little bit better.  Just a little.

Okay, what I need to fix:

  • The terrible collar, and buttons
  • The Dress Shoes and Socks
  • Dress Pants
  • The Hugeness of your Pants

Assessment:  I have some work to do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, let’s get started.  First, those dreaded buttons, and collars.  Well I have a way to make the buttons unnoticeable.  Wear a cute scarf in a  magnificent contrasting color, to cover up the faux pair of adding these buttons.  And now, the collar.  I can’t cover that completely, but I can cover the shirt, and make the collar cute.  Wear your favorite sweater over the shirt.  It looks really great, when you pick a good one.  And it looks…. NORMAL!  Like you would layer it any day.  So we cross one item off our list.

Okay, what I need to fix:

  • The terrible collar, and buttons
  • The Dress Shoes and Socks
  • Dress Pants
  • The Hugeness of your Pants

Next, the dress shoes and socks.  Okay, well at my school you can wear black ballet flats.  And when you do, you don’t have to wear those terrible dreadful, gloomy socks.  You don’t have to wear any at all.  So if you find a cute pair of ballet flats, you’ve got two things off the list.  And to brighten up the outfit, clip on a bow to the toe of your shoe.  OR find one with something embroidered on the toe.  Mine have gold cat faces :)  Okay, cross that off the list.

  • The terrible collar, and buttons
  • The Dress Shoes and Socks
  • Dress Pants
  • The Hugeness of your Pants

The dress pants.  They look really businessy and boss like when  you have those wide legs.  So I wear a pair of pants from H&M.  They cling to your legs like tights.  But they have zippers in the front.  And the fabric overlaps, to give you a black line down the front.  They look well enough to wear without something covering the back.  Unlike tights, which REALLY NEED something to cover the back.   Cross that off the list.

  • The terrible collar, and buttons
  • The Dress Shoes and Socks
  • Dress Pants
  • The Hugeness of your Pants

There’s not much I can tell you to do with the hugeness of your pants.  If you absolutely MUST tuck in your shirt, only do it at the actual concert.  For the rest of the time, tie  it with a hair band, like you do with your oversized tee shirts.  It’s not that hard, and the least expensive of theses fix-its.  Well, we’ve crossed all our items off the list.

  • The terrible collar, and buttons
  • The Dress Shoes and Socks
  • Dress Pants
  • The Hugeness of your Pants

How Green is Your Closet? Your Vanity? Jeans and Makeup Pollutes our Earth!

Dear Readers,

Jeans are harming the environment everyday.  Yes!  Your favorite go to pants are actually criminals.  It takes about 1,500 gallons of water to make one good quality pair of jeans.  How many do you own?  Do the math.  You are most likely using over 4,500 gallons of water to LOOK GOOD!  How evil does that sound?  So next time you see a pair of jeans you want, think.  Do you really need that?  Companies are in the process of making jeans using less water.  Support those companies.  Don’t go out and buy those jeans that are harming the environment.  Do your part to save the earth and cut back on jean shopping.

Tribune.com

And don’t stop there.  Beauty products are a big factor in water pollution.  In fact, a huge collection of beauty care products are dumped into waterways every year.  Are you throwing out your makeup and such?  Well, when you do, you do your part to pollute our water.  And when you dump your beauty care products into the ocean you are affecting the animals reproduced. Have you seen the frogs without toes, or legs.  What about extra ones?  You could be the cause of this!

Cut a rectangle of ribbon or paper that fits your need.  Then fold the bottom portion in half, you don’t need a crease.  Then, take your ribbon or paper and turn it so the fold is on the right.  Next, take your scissors and make a diagonal cut from the side opposite the fold to the fold.  Voila!  You’re done!

Smash Booking: Easy Scrapbooking

Dear Readers,

I quite enjoy paper art.  While this is not fashion related I have decided to post whatever I feel, almost like a magazine.  So when I saw people Smash booking on the internet I was automatically interested.  I love watching people’s processes on YouTube..  And I really liked watching the completed Smash books of other people.  At first I tried to make my own Smash book, because they were $15,  but I could find a sturdy way to bind it.  The binder rings just weren’t working.  So when the Smash books went on sale I bought two of them.  But when I got home I couldn’t bring myself to cover up the pretty paper.  So I gave the Smash books to my sisters and gave up on the Smash booking for a while.  But I needed a project to take on.  So I went down to my basement and found a nicely sized sketchbook.  As I added my Memorabilia I cover the pages with wrapping paper and the neon paper I had from an old paper pad.  I have finally gotten the Smash booking down, it’s actually quite fun.  And yesterday I went to Target and bought some embellishments.  Basically I got some mustache stickers, and butterfly stickers.  And 6 glue sticks.(Smashing requires a lot of glue.  The Smash pen is NOT ENOGUH!  In fact, mine is empty.)    If you don’t want to buy ANYTHING for your Smash book you can find a wonderful collection of free smash book pintables, using that search term.  I’ve decided to make a flip through video (of my Smash book) for you and upload it later on today.  So for now, some pictures and videos:
